The annual winter attraction Seoul Plaza Skating Rink has been opened.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government on Dec. 20 said the rink will run for 52 days from Dec. 22 to Feb. 11.

The opening hours are 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Sunday to Thursday and 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday, Saturday and holidays.

The cost is KRW 1,000 per hour including skate rental and free use of safety equipment such as helmets and kneepads. Wearing gloves is mandatory.

The rink is decorated with 24 small houses throughout Seoul Plaza under the theme of a winter festival space and light sculptures will be installed in connection with this year’s Seoul Lantern Festival. Programs include one on experiencing Olympic sports like mini curling and playing traditional games with movie characters.

The opening ceremony on Dec. 22 will start at 5:40 p.m. and feature a figure skating performance, after which the rink will be open to the public for free.

The city said it expects far more visitors to the rink this year from last year and will thus ensure safety by deploying security and medical staff at all times. Additionally, the ice on the rink will be resurfaced after each session and if the ultrafine dust level exceeds a certain point, the facility will be temporarily closed.

More details on the rink like making online reservations is available on the facility’s official website (www.seoulskate.co.kr).
