President Moon Jae-in has vowed to make Busan into the world’s best logistics hub.
He was speaking during a “declaration ceremony” concerning the future of the port of Busan on March 16.
”Korea can make its greatest dream come true only when it connects the continent and the ocean,” said President Moon.
“We are now preparing a grand turnaround in world history ahead of the South-North Korean Summit and the summit between Pyongyang and Washington,” he said.
“If we make the best of the opportunity and connect the two Koreas, it will dramatically change the fate of the Korean Peninsula and will make the Republic of Korea’s dream of making a leap forward come true,” said the president.
“Along with railroads and airports, Busan Port will become a logistics hub that connects the land, the sea and the air across Northeast Asia,” said President Moon.
President Moon also stressed that the success of his administration’s New Northern and New Southern policies rely on the reinvigoration of the port in Busan.
President Moon vowed to give his all-out support for research and development into core technologies. He said, “We will establish a smart ocean logistics system here, backed by world-class information and communications technology.”
“We will also expand the port and its related facilities more than eight times larger than the existing level, in order to build a comprehensive logistics hub that combines logistics and business,” said the president.
After the ceremony, President Moon visited the Busan Port International Passenger Terminal in the northern part of Busan Port to inspect the businesses that operate there.
