Bulgarian K-pop fans of different ages and occupations share a passion for dancing.

K-pop brings diversity to life and makes the world a better place.

Korean popular music’s unique features are the main reason so many people show interest in the genre. Some of those features include catchy songs, breathtaking choreographies, flawless visuals and interesting filming locations. It’s not about the language of the song or the song’s country of origin. K-pop is simply an expression of love and passion for good music. On one hand, Korean entertainment agencies keep producing quality videos that fans yearn for and appreciate. On the other, Korean singers’ burning charisma both on set and on stage makes fans swoon over their favorite K-pop singers and band members. K-pop creates a dream utopia about a better world, where creativity and love prevail.

How is K-pop different from pop music in general? The main difference is that the PG rating is a lot lower when it comes to K-pop, compared to other pop song music videos, making it perfect for young adolescents and teenagers to watch, without constantly being reminded of sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll. For the most part, K-pop keeps its content in the PG-13 safe area and this is just another one of its many charms that young people, looking for diversity, really appreciate.

It’s important to mention that popularizing K-pop both domestically and internationally is a very clever media policy for Korea, aiming to improve its overall image through music and art. The country does it extremely successfully. Thanks to K-pop, more and more people all over the world are getting interested in Korea, Korean media, traditions and language.

K-pop fans express their support for Bulgaria’s favorite Korean boyband, BTS.

On a personal level, K-pop gives fans around the world a meaningful and positive hobby to be passionate about. Instead of spending their time smoking cigarettes or drinking, young people get together and share their adoration for Korean pop and media with each other. Their mutual love for the music genre helps them create lasting and meaningful friendships. Furthermore, many of the fans start learning their favorite group’s dance choreographies, leading a more dynamic life, as well as taking care of their health in an enjoyable way.

Here’s an example of the above, a clear illustration that K-pop does bring young people together and help them create meaningful long-lasting friendships.

Behind the scenes photos from the set of the ‘BTS Dance Cover Project.’

Recently, I came up with the idea to organize a fan-created dance cover project for Bulgaria’s most beloved K-pop boyband, BTS (방탄 소년 단). The project is called the “BTS Dance Cover Project.” Fellow Bulgarian BTS fans and I got together and over the span of three days shot a mix of four BTS hit songs, with Bulgarian fans dancing to it. Bulgarian K-pop dance cover groups Cypher, DIY and PPF, as well as other K-pop fans, took part in the project, totaling more than 50 people altogether, including the participants and the organizers. This dance project is part of a bigger campaign to get the attention of BTS, show them our love and endless support, and eventually request a future K-pop concert in Bulgaria. You can watch the final video project here:

Bulgarian fans would love to have their first ever K-pop concert soon and it would be great if it’s a BTS concert. Let’s all make a wish and hope our message reaches the group one day!
