Korea has claimed victory in the 43rd WorldSkills Competition, an international factory and industrial skills contest, that was held in Sao Paulo this year.

Korea clinched 12 gold, seven silver and five bronze medals, outdoing the other nations and taking first place in the competition that ran from Aug. 11 to 16 at the Ibirapuera Auditorium in Brazil’s largest city.

With the victory, Korea has now won the competition for the 19th time and for the fifth time in a row.

The host country, Brazil, was the runner-up with 11 gold, 10 silver and six bronze medals, followed by China. This year’s competition had approximately 1,200 participants from 60 countries from all around the world.

Team Korea is jubilant as it wins the WorldSkills Competition in Sao Paulo with a total of 11 gold medals.

Participants competed in a total of 50 categories. Team Korea, made up of 45 people, took part in 41 competitions involving IT network systems administration, Web design, mobile robotics, welding, baking, metal construction and jewelry, to name only a few.

In particular, the gold medalist in the automobile technology competition, Seo Jeong-woo, a 20-year-old employee at Hyundai Automobile, topped the others in terms of total points, winning the coveted Albert Vidal Award, an award that goes to the best competitor in the contest.
