The nation has topped the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development’s (OECD) digital government index for the second consecutive time, the Ministry of Interior and Safety said on Jan. 30.
The OECD first conducted this assessment in 2019 to measure the level of digital transformation of each member country in the public and private sectors. The 2023 study was the second in four years, ranking 33 OECD member and five non-member states in six categories.
Korea last year scored 0.935 out of 1, up nearly two-tenths of a point from 0.742 in 2019, as the only Asian country in the top 10.
The country also topped four of the index’s six categories — data-driven public sector, government as a platform, open by default and proactiveness — and second in the other two: digital by design and user-driven.
Denmark finished second in the study with 0.811 points and the U.K. third with 0.775, followed by Norway (0.770), Australia (0.753), Estonia (0.742) and Colombia (0.736).
“Thanks to the collective efforts of the public, government and business, the nation was able to remain No. 1 on the OECD’s digital government evaluation released in December last year,” Minister of the Interior and Safety Lee Sang-min said. “As a globally recognized leader in digital governance, we will keep advancing our digital platform government to deliver convenient and reliable services.”
