An environmentally friendly life, in both the present and the future, is being designed here in Korea.

The 2016 World Eco-Friendly Design Exhibition, set to kick off in Naju, Jeollanam-do Province, from May 5 to 29, will raise awareness of the importance of ecofriendly design for many products, design that puts the environment first, from start to end.

Under the slogan “Seeking a New Life for a Better World Through Design,” the exhibition will focus on environmentally friendly designs, or “ecodesign,” an approach to not only designing a product in an ecofriendly manner, but which also aims for a recyclable and, moreover, “zero garbage” items.

The trade fair will spotlight the process through which certain items are designed and produced at very little cost to the environment. It will also focus on the way in which a complete product can be recycled and discarded without causing any harm to the environment.

As part of the 2016 World Eco-Friendly Design Exhibition, a viewing gallery offers a glimpse into a variety of cartoon characters that were designed in an environmentally friendly manner.

The fair features seven exhibits: a national dyeing special exhibition, a natural asset exhibition, a kids & industry exhibition, a future design exhibition, a design school, a “life together” exhibition and, lastly, a special exhibition on the province of Jeollanam-do itself.

In the Natural Dyeing Special Exhibition, visitors will get a range of information about natural dyeing, a traditional method of dyeing cloth with natural materials. Here, traditional methods are projected onto a screen for better understanding.

The National Asset Exhibition introduces the natural landscape of Jeollanam-do Province, from forests to natural resources. In the Kids & Industry Exhibition, people will browse ecofriendly cartoon characters from famous cartoons or animated movies, as well as how the animation industry here has grown into a global and affective part of the country’s content industry.

The Future Design Exhibition will take a look at what design will look like when it’s teamed up with cutting-edge technology, such as nanotechnology or biotechnology, to create synergy effects. The Design School sector will run programs where children can learn how to design items using natural materials. The Life Together Exhibition will display environmentally friendly products from both at home and abroad.

Lastly, the Jeollanam-do Special Exhibition focuses on newly-created products based on its rich natural resources, and how the province has grown to be home to almost 40 percent of the national ecofriendly agricultural industry.

The Green Food Market, part of the World Eco-Friendly Design Exhibition, allows visitors to sample or purchase food items that have been grown in an environmentally friendly manner and which are produced across 22 areas in Jeollanam-do Province.

Besides the exhibitions, a symposium will bring together experts on industrial design from both home and abroad. Speakers at the conference will include director of the DaVinci Institute Thomas Frey and vice president of the Designers Association of India Ashish Deshpande. The pundits will talk about their concepts and visions for ecofriendly design, as well as paths that the industry could take in the future.
