“It’s so beautiful. Is it possible to rent this somewhere?”
On Nov. 29 at an exhibit featuring prize-winning works of art from the Talk Talk Korea 2016 contest, it was easy to overhear crowds of people talking among themselves about the works of art on display. Some even expressed wanting to try on a Hanbok garment pictured in a photograph displayed on the wall.
Due to the colder weather, Gwanghwamun Square has been significantly less crowded than it is during the warmer months. The chill hasn’t stopped tourists from paying a visit to the statue of King Sejong the Great, however, and a steady stream of people could be seen admiring the artworks on display by the regal statue. The selection of 300 artworks featured videos, photos, comic strips, works of calligraphy, postcards and Hanbok clothes.
Some 24,029 artworks from 151 different countries were entered into the competition this year over a period of 56 days, starting on June 1. The theme for this year’s contest was “Korea In Your Eyes,” and the organizers asked artists to express what Korea means to them through their creative ideas.
The exhibit will run until Dec. 7.
