The kingdom of nature has now opened its doors, attracting children and their families into the world of insects and plants.

On July 10, the Rural Development Administration (RDA) opened its Insect Park, an educational center covering 30,000 square meters in Wanju-gun County in Jeollabuk-do Province (North Jeolla Province). The newly-opened park is home to more than 100 species of insect, including sulfur butterflies and red dragonflies. A fresh, fragrant aroma from about 8,000 trees, covering 118 species, and 3,000 flowers and 98 other plants greet visitors, too.

Children enjoy the insects and plants at a pond in the newly-opened Insect Park in Wanju-gun County, Jeollabuk-do Province, on July 10.

“It’s expected that the insects here will reproduce, as the flowers and weeds on which they feed grow all year around,” said an official from the RDA. “This park will help quench children’s curiosity about our natural ecosystem. At the same time, it will offer people a respite from their busy life, allowing them to mingle with elements of nature.”

The park aims at giving children and younger visitors the rare chance to touch plants and animals first-hand and to take a close look at the variety of lives in the insect and plant worlds. Additional facilities, such as ponds and a pavilion, as well as an “insectarium,” are also featured in the park, allowing visitors to stop for a while to smell the scent of the flowers and the trees.

If you are interested in visiting the park, please make a reservation at 063-238-2130 or by visiting http://www.naas.go.kr. Entrance is free of charge and the park is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday.
