After a short, 40-minute ferry ride, we docked at the wharf on Jangsado Island. The weather was really nice and warm. It didn’t feel like winter at all. As soon as I got off the ferry, I saw a big sign with “CAMELLIA” written on it.

A huge sign welcomes visitors to the island.
Jangsado Island is famous for its beautiful red camellia blossoms every spring. However, since it’s the middle of winter, I didn’t expect to see any flowers on the island. To my surprise, however, there were a lot of camellia bushes dotted with red flowers. They were blooming in the winter! I was so excited, I couldn’t stop snapping photos of those beautiful blossoms.

Camellias on Jangsado Island can bloom in December.

The camellia son Jangsado Island are quite pretty.

The view from Jangsado Island doesn’t look like winter.
Following the recommended walking path, we explored the beautiful island. We stopped and took some selfies at the famous Rainbow Bridge (무지개다리). The Rainbow Bridge was featured in the soap opera “Uncontrollably Fond” that starred Kim Woo-bin as Sin Joon-yeong and Suzy as No-eul. It felt great to actually walk along that bridge and to see the stunning scenery.

The hit TV show ‘Uncontrollably Fond’ was filmed at this exact spot, and you can imagine Joon-yeong waiting for No-eul right here!
We also checked out the Camellia Tunnel and the amphitheater that are also among some of the most popular attractions on the island. Some scenes from the soap opera “My Love From the Star,” which starred Kim Soo-hyun and Jun Ji-hyun, were filmed at the Camellia Tunnel and at the amphitheater. The Camellia Tunnel is most beautiful in spring when the red flowers cover the narrow pathway.

We walked through the Camellia Tunnel where a scene from the TV show ‘My Love From the Star’ was filmed.

Many of the spots on Jangsado Island make you think of fairy tales.

Pop groups BTS and EXO have both performed at the amphitheater on Jangsado Island.
Upon reaching the top of the hill, we found a cafeteria. However, because of our limited time on the island, we weren’t able to sit and buy anything.
Though our trip to Jangsado was quick, we were happy we did it. Jangsado Island is one of the most beautiful islands I’ve ever been to. It was like a paradise surrounded by a calm blue sea. The camellias made it look even more beautiful.

Jangsado is truly a paradise of Korea’s South Sea.
