A wide variety of events are unfolding at traditional markets across the country in celebration of Autumn Travel Week, a two-week festival running from Oct. 24 to Nov. 6.

Starting Monday, around 40 sites at 26 spots nationwide, including historic sites, cultural facilities and ecological preservation areas, have opened to the public, featuring 17 travel packages and 266 related programs.

To spice things up even more, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism put out a list of the top 70 traditional markets to explore on your travels, where you can enjoy events, concerts and other fun activities while nibbling on some delicious treats.

If you’re in Busan during Autumn Travel Week, you can participate in a treasure hunt where competitors complete missions at different filming locations around the city from famous movies, like Busan’s Gukje Sijang Market (국제 시장) (pictured), and collect stamps along the way.

At the Gukje Sijang Market (국제 시장), where the blockbuster “Ode to My Father” “was shot, competitors are asked to take pictures holding up a “Discount Please” sign to receive a 10 to 30 percent off voucher. At the nearby Jagalchi Sijang Market (자갈치 시장), completing a mission will get you a coupon that you can use in the market.

Meanwhile in the city of Yongin in Gyeonggi-do Province you can enjoy a number fun events that are a part of the “Making Memories in Yongin” program. At the Yongin Joongang Sijang Market (용인 중앙 시장), there will be performances by R&B group Monday Kids and a military marching band on Oct. 29, and a children’s flea market will open on Nov. 6. While checking out these events, you can stroll down the ddeok rice cake street (떡골목), the dumpling street (만두골목) or the blood sausage sundae street (순대골목) and get your fill of tasty market snacks.

Seoul’s Tongin Sijang Market (통인시장) is selected by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as one of the top 70 traditional markets to enjoy during the Autumn Travel Week. The market is famous for its oily rice cake ddeokbokki and for its chicken skewers.

In the city of Jaecheon in Chungcheongbuk-do Province, visitors can take advantage of an “co-healing” travel program and check out the Jaecheon Joongang Market (제천 중앙시장). There, they can check out some products made by the city’s young entrepreneurs and participate in a Halloween parade.

If the National Institute of Ecology in Seocheon-gun County, Chungcheongnam-do Province, is on your itinerary, you’ll be able to get a discount during the travel week. After your visit to the ecological park, you can take your ticket to the Seocheon Teukhwa Sijang Market (서천 특화 시장) and get your hands on some giveaways, including rice, baskets and other gifts.
