Jongmyo Daeje, a rite worshipping the kings and queens of the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910), was held at Jongmyo Shrine in Seoul on May 5.

The annual ceremony is held on the first Sunday of May, which was Children’s Day this year, complete with programs for children to enjoy. In the afternoon, a royal procession started from Gyeongbokgung Palace and ended at Jongmyo Shrine. As soon as the parade was over, the royal ancestral rite began.

Jongmyo Daeje is a UNESCO Cultural Heritage conducted in solemn manner. Families and participants at the ceremony showed their respect.
